We recently sponsored the eftpos ARA National retail Awards, hosting more than 500 of Australian’s best and brightest retailers in Melbourne.

The event was a great success, with Vodafone taking out the eftpos National retailer of the Year Award and Dave Ellett delivering a speech thanking merchants for their support of eftpos over the past years.

David said: “Retail is an exceptionally important industry because it impacts all of our daily lives. Your industry is the barometer of our economy.

“These awards provide an opportunity to recognise the contribution of your businesses and the people who run them.

“Australian retail today is not only extraordinarily competitive, but the industry is also evolving at a rapid pace, with more international brands and the increasing use of technology and new channels.

“And eftpos is about championing merchants by aiming to provide great secure, fast and reliable products, and at low cost.

“And we are proudly Australian. In fact our Purpose is: to actively drive competition and innovation in payments for the benefit of Australia and Australians.  That means you.

“As Australia’s payments company with access to 50 million cards in market, we help create innovative, bespoke customer payment experiences for you and your customers.

“Recent initiatives like Least Cost Routing , where merchants get to choose the least cost network to send their transactions are the result of some of hard work we have been doing with organisations like the RBA and the ARA.”

Over the past week we have also been represented at the MGA Independent Retailers 70th year celebration in Melbourne and the COSBOA National Small Business Summit, which was attended by the Small Business Ombudsman, the Taxation Commissioner, the ACCC and many others.

On Wednesday night we sponsored the Online Retailer of the Year Award at the National Retail Awards in Sydney, with an audience of more than 300 merchants.  Paul presented the Award to the winner Appliances Online and told the audience:
“In the coming months, for the first time, eftpos aims to provide eCommerce merchants and consumers with an alternative way to pay, or be paid … eftpos’ participation in eCommerce aims to boost competition and drive efficiency in the Australian Payments System.
